During a trip to Germany Elmo stood out as a class horse from 33 other hopefuls. He is a stunning horse, athletic, with a great jump, excellent movement and looks which match his personality. He had minimal education and no competition experience when we met and it was a big step up to join my team, which he has done with panache.
Elmo began his competition career with a BE100 run at Ascot-under-Wychwood where he won the dressage and jumped double clear to claim his first win.
Elmo stepped up to Novice after only two BE100’s. It is never my aim to win Novice classes by pushing for time and yet he has still placed highly at Novice. At Aston le Walls he won the dressage with 80% and placed 2nd, followed by a 3rd at Somerford Park against a highly competitive field with another winning 75.5% dressage. September 2015 Elmo made a very difficult South-of-England CIC1* feel easy.
There was much debate amongst the team as to what competition name suited our black beauty who to date was named after a Sesame Street favorite. We already have an international theme: Amsterdam, Cleveland, and when Jacky Green suggested Jamaica we all agreed it was the perfect name for our long legged, black beauty. Registration restrictions were negotiated by adding his silent lucky ‘j’.
